When thinking about Legends and leaving legacies, one often considers the Championship team or player or coach when talking about athletics. The Leland Comets Legacy Fund wants to recognize the unsung Legend of Leland Athletics, Mr. Greg Lingaur, otherwise lovingly known as Greggy.
A legend is someone who leaves behind an unforgettable impression on others. They touch lives, they’re remembered, they’re cherished. Greg is all of those things to coaches, players, and opponents who have experienced his knowledge of the game, his handling of the scoreclock, and fun loving nature.
There are all sorts of legends in this world – famous or not. Becoming one means finding your particular role, your calling, following it, and touching others around you. Greg found his niche perfectly in Leland athletics. His loyalty to the Leland Comets athletic program is exemplary. He so competently and accurately kept game scores that Leland coaches knew for forty years their games were in good hands.
Greg’s enthusiasm is legendary. He led by example from the scorer table, teaching us all what it means to contribute unselfishly, to commit fully, and to participate enthusiastically in support of school students and players. Leland Comet fans have been treated to many years of a great example of community involvement.
