About LCLF

The Challenge

Over the past 20+ years, essential school expenses have grown faster than state and federal funding. Annual school operating budgets are now squeezed razor thin, forcing difficult choices when allocating resources. Furthermore, athletic programs share the same limited pool of funds that support classroom education.

Personal growth from the student-athlete experience is vital for many, and shouldn’t be left to chance. And that’s where we come in.

What We Do

Formed in late 2021, the Leland Comets Legacy Fund (LCLF) works to honor the past and sustain the future of Comet excellence through fundraising, program support, and community engagement.

Recent Initiatives

  • Free admission to games
  • Official Comets Spirit Wear Store

FAQ

Is the Leland Comets Legacy Fund affiliated with Leland Public School?
Yes. LCLF is a fundraising club affiliated with the school.

How will my donation be used?
Donations to the Leland Comets Legacy Fund are passed through, less any related costs, to the LPS Athletic Department for direct financial support of school athletic programs.

Are donations tax-deductible?
Yes, all donations to the school are tax deductible.

How are the funds allocated among teams?
The LPS Administration decides which sports and how many teams it can support and allocates funds as needed for each program.

Can I specify to which team my donation goes?
Donations to Leland Comets Legacy Fund will support all student athletes of Leland Public School.

What other funding sources contribute to LPS athletics?
Participation fees paid by students and gate receipts defray the costs of the program. However, the LPS General Fund covers approximately $150,000 of the athletic program costs each year. When school funding gets tight, funding for the athletic program is in jeopardy.

How much of my donation will be used to support the athletic program?
All donations above the small cost of supplies, tech charges, and bank fees (expected to be about $750 annually) will be used on athletic programs.

Who manages the Leland Comets Legacy Fund?
